Designing
With an average age of 35 and industry experience of 10 years, our skilled design team specializes in development of stamping dies, from simple single-step to complex multi-step progressive stamping dies. We are ready to meet different requirements from customers in different industries.
CAD/3D engineering capabilities allows Dersun to design detailed components and part geometry. Once a product design is established, Dersun gets to work on the tool and die design to manufacture it. Precision design is critical, as the punches and dies must maintain proper clearance to manufacture quality parts. It is also complex, as a single tool print can contain hundreds of parts.
Our manufacturing and quality engineers also work together to reverse engineer parts and improve their design, tooling and fabrication.
Strip Layout
During strip layout development, engineers have to define the type of stamping operations required for the part production, the sequence of operations, the required number of stations and the operations to be performed at each station of progressive die.
In the design of blanking parts from strip material, the first step is to prepare blanking layout, that is, to layout the position of the workpieces in the strip and their orientation with respect to one another. While doing so, the major consideration is the economy of material. Another important consideration in strip layout is the distance between the blanks and the strip edge and distance between blank to blank. To prevent the scrap from twisting and wedging between the punch and the die. The distance must increase with material thickness. A general rule of thumb is to keep this distance equal to from 1 to 1.5times the material thickness.
Strip layout is important to have economy of press tool operation. Scrap strip layout gives an idea on the positioning of various punches, stops and pilots. It ensures the ideal location of blanks in the stock strip. Several trial layouts have to be made to confirm the maximum percentage of utilization of stock strip. The goal should be to have at least 75% utilization.
Tooling Design
After the approval of strip layout, Dersun will start with the 3D design for the tooling. In this section, the tooling are transferred to 3-dimensional environment with the process studies prepared.
The tooling design organizes components of different shapes, sizes, and composition into one unified concept. Competent, in-house die design can be a critical component of sound tool engineering and production.
A die is designed and built for one of two reasons: it may be either an entire press tool or it may be a component that is machined to receive a blank. The well-designed blueprint keeps waste at a minimum and prolongs tool life by ensuring the right materials and techniques are used in producing the die.
